Hello batch of 2022, welcome to LUMS. Soon enough you will realize that LUMS is a place where people from all across Pakistan come and stay together, study together, work together, and party together for 4 years and then go their own ways. The important thing is to make the most of your time here and the secret to that is to be fearless. Be fearless in trying out new things, be fearless in choosing which courses to take, be fearless in which societies to join or which sports to try out and most importantly, be fearless in talking to the people around you.
I am pursuing a degree in Accounting and Finance; however, I have taken up courses in Political Science and Computer Science as well. I highly encourage you to try out new disciplines too as this is probably the only time in your life when you have the opportunity to try out so many new things in such a short duration of time. Outside the classroom, I was a part of 3 student societies in my freshman year, 2 of which I have retained. It does not matter if your society is aligned with your academic interests so feel free to apply for different societies and don’t pass on this opportunity in hopes of gaining a higher GPA, because in all frankness, you’ll regret it.
Academics is only a small part of the LUMS journey and there is so much more to explore. Make sure you avail every opportunity that this institute has to offer, including but not limited to, some time off for trips to the beautiful North of Pakistan or just some late-night chai with your new buddies.
Lastly, feel free to reach out to the people around you – there is no shame in asking for help. Looking forward to meeting you all very soon. Welcome home
