Advising is one of the most important part of a successful university experience.
There are some specific situations where it is highly recommended that being a student one should seek advisement, if:
- You need assistance in planning courses for the next semester
- You are in freshmen year and want information about declaring a major
- You need assistance with the decision-making process so that you can declare a major
- You have failed or need to make up courses from a prior year
- You have been placed on academic probation
- You are readmitted after seperation
- You have been granted transfer credits
- You are considering changing, or have changed, your major/program
- You are thinking about taking a minor
- You are considering returning to studies after taking a break
- You are struggling with your studies for personal and/or academic reasons
- You are considering withdraw from one or more courses
- You need assistance if planning to graduate early
- You need to know whether you will be graduating on time
- You need assistance in understanding Advisement Report
These are all situations where academic advising is particularly valuable, but all questions are welcome! Your Academic Advisor is available to discuss any situation which might affect your ability to participate in university and be successful.
When Should You See Your Advisor?
Every semester prior to your enrollment date:
- To discuss academic progress
- To find out more about a particular major or minor
- To discuss any problem(s) that might affect your academic performance
- To discuss dropping a class, and the possible impact from your decision (financial aid, full-time status, etc.)
- To discuss graduate and professional options and receive appropriate referrals
- To monitor progress toward graduation

- Knowledgable about the degree program requirements and able to select courses each semester to progress towards fulfillment of degree plan.
- Display understanding of LUMS policies and procedures and how these policies and procedures impact academic progress.
